In the proccess of researching for a blog about how the republicans have become the new party of lost direction I came across a news piece about Tommy Thompsons 08' presidential bid.
I like Tommy, this isn't meant to be an attack on him, it's about the republicans complete lack of focus, they look unprofessional as hell.
Fox news say Tommys stance on issues such as health care and ... being a midwesterner, give him potential.

So Tommy helped push a questionably unpopular program that was publicly sold as costing about 400 billion over 10 years, but infact will cost between 500 and 600 billion. The health care program took a lot of heat for pushing big government and big budget expenses.

Does anyone remember when republicans were the party of "limited government"?
I think this is baffling, Tommy, a man who's brother has run twice for WI governorship as a libertarian, and a man who has promoted limited government less than a decade ago as governor is now running a centrist campaign, it's as though his view on the democrats is "if you can't beat them, join them."

Thompson doesn't stand a chance in the primaries unless he pretends to be a right wing religious extremist. He also has to give up any midwest values (that he had?) and moderatness. He's doomed.
As for the republicans falling apart, well the dems did it in '04. It all is matter of how the media choose to present the primaries. They are the ones who hand picked John Kerry for some reason. (Yes I voted for Dean and hate the media for dwelling on his "scream".) The democrats (the party leadership) needs to pick a canidadate before the primaries so the party looks unifed, so the republicans look as foolish in their primaries without a "choosen one".
